It’s not uncommon for K-Pop idols to find themselves amidst dating rumors. These rumors are often based on unfounded speculation, and the so-called “evidence” is often hilarious.

Here are 5 of the weirdest fake dating rumors in K-Pop history.

5. Yoona (Girls’ Generation) and PSY

This ridiculous rumor in 2012 started because of the pictures and turned into a scandalous fake story.

In the photos, Yoona was seen with a man whom a Chinese media site assumed was PSY. Yoona was wearing a hoodie and the man’s face was not fully visible as he was wearing a hat.

Based on the photos, media site reported that PSY and Yoona met at a party 6 months ago. The site reports that because of Yoona’s personality, she liked PSY during the party and she started going to her parties more, which led to the start of their secret relationship.

This rumor could have done a lot of damage because PSY was already married and had children. Both Yoona and PSY’s agencies said the unfounded rumor was not worth responding to, and netizens were outraged when they learned that the entire scandalous story was built around a few photos. Some netizens also noticed that the photos were taken during the filming of the variety show Running Man and that the man in the photos is the cameraman.

4. Taeyeon (Girls’ Generation) and G-Dragon (BIGBANG)

This 2015 rumor was based on “evidence” on the two stars’ social media.

Netizens noticed that the two were sharing similar content on their social media pages and assumed that the similarities were due to Taeyeon and G-Dragon being in a relationship. One of the “evidence” examples was that they shared photos on Instagram several hours apart using the same filter.

Netizens also noticed a smiley face on one of Taeyeon’s nails in the photo above and assumed it was placed there to match G-Dragon’s smiley face tattoo.

SM Entertainment commented on the incident, “This is baseless talk. It’s like a fiction novel.” he said.

3. Karina (aespa) and Hyunjin (Stray Kids)

This rumor from September 2021 was literally based on Hyunjin’s phone lock screen.

A netizen took a look at Hyunjin’s lock screen and thought it was a photo of Karina.

Another netizen placed Karina’s selfie on Hyunjin’s lock screen, supposedly proving that Karina is Hyunjin’s background.

The rumor spread further based on the screen names of the two stars Dear U. Lysn Bubble. Both had added -ie to their names with blue hearts.

Hyunjin shut down the rumor himself by posting a photo of the actual lock screen on Bubble. The lock screen was actually a drawing of 2 characters from a K-Drama he watched recently.

2. Daughter of V (BTS) and the group head of Paradise

This October 2021 rumor started because V was visiting a museum.

V was spotted by netizens at a museum holding an exhibition with Chairman Choi Yoon Jung, wife of Chairman Phillip Jeon. They are the presidents of Paradise Group, a company that owns several hotels and casinos in Korea. According to netizens, their daughter Joanna Chun was also at the exhibition.

Of course, netizens assumed that V was dating Joanna Chun because she was seen at the museum with her family. V also wore bracelets from Joanna Chun’s label, PeakPick, and netizens used her bracelet as further “proof” that she’s dating him.

HYBE quickly shut down the rumors, saying, “President Choi Yoon Jung and V’s family are just acquaintances.” V himself also addressed the rumors on Weverse. “Today, in my dream, I will shoot poisoned needles on the back of those people. Protect the back of your neck. Shoot Shoot.”

1. Rose (BLACKPINK) and Mark (GOT7)

This ridiculous rumor has been going on since 2018, but this year it has reached new heights. Like most of the other rumors here, it was based on social media “evidence”.

Much of the so-called “evidence” is based on social media posts. For example, when it snowed in January, Rosé captioned her photos of the snow, “Baby, it’s cold outside.” Mark shared the photo, writing “it’s not cold at all”.

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic and popular tourist attractions in Paris, so Rosé and Mark’s visit to the famous tower was the most ridiculous proof ever. After all, the tower receives thousands of visitors per day. Mark apparently saw the rumors circulating online and addressed them via Twitter, telling the gossipers to “stop now”.
