Dubbed “K-Pop’s Met Gala” by fans, SM Entertainment‘s annual Halloween party SMTOWN Wonderland is one of the most anticipated events of the year for K-Pop fans. This event, where idols wear extravagant and often unexpected costumes, is a tradition started by SHINee in 2013. This year, eight artists were awarded “SM Best Dresser” for wearing the best costumes!
Bronze Award: Ten (NCT)
NCT’s Ten tied for the Bronze award with his Ciel Phantomhive skin! He not only created the appearance of the Black Butler main character, but also created a second appearance and was made into a picture with himself.
Bronze Award: Yeri (Red Velvet)
Red Velvet’s Yeri tied for the Bronze award as Princess Hours’ Shin Chae Kyung! Yeri revealed in her behind-the-scenes video that she was watching the show these days and inspired her to choose this costume.
Silver Award: Taeyong and Jungwoo (NCT)
Taeyong and Jungwoo‘s Twilight couple’s costume earned them the Silver award! After Jungwoo decided he wanted to be Bella, Taeyong agreed to be his partner and left as Edward. Definitely a look to remember for years to come!
Gold Award: Giselle (aespa)
Giselle first won the Gold award at SMTOWN Wonderland! She dressed as Harley Quinn, an iconic character from the DC comics universe. It was especially inspired by the outfit Margot Robbie wore in Suicide Squad!
Platinum Award: Shindong (Super Junior)
Shindong was awarded a Platinum award for her role as the doll Younghee in Squid Game. Not only did he appear in full costume, there were also two game staff members and even someone dressed as the tree behind Younghee in the show!
Diamond Reward: Chenle (NCT)
Chenle won the Diamond award for her spooky and impressive costume: she wore a nun costume from The Nun (2018). She was completely unrecognizable by the amount of makeup on her face. Chenle could have easily replaced the main character in the movie!
Master Award: Onew (SHINee)
Finally, Onew won the top prize: “Master!” In a behind-the-scenes video, Onew revealed that he wanted to try dressing up as The Penguin, whom he thought was the terrifying villain, after the Joker in the Batman series. While Onew says he’s not too happy with his makeup, fans agree he’s totally successful!
The winners donated their prize money to The Beautiful Foundation to “support spending needed by foster parents.” Congratulations to the winners!
