In a new interview for GQ Korea magazine, BTS’ Suga answered questions about himself. Take a peek inside the mind of this brilliant and intelligent artist.

1. What stage does Suga see in his dreams?

The Seoul final concert of BTS’s 2019 LOVE YOURSELF tour is still fresh in Suga’s mind. Sometimes he watches a video from the concert and then dreams about it.

2. Suga, AGUST D and “SUGA”

When asked about himself as a BTS member, solo rapper, and producer, Suga replied that each piece is 1/3 of himself. All three show different sides of who he is, and Suga likes to give people the freedom to choose which side of him they want to see.

3. Keywords?

GQ Korea pointed out that BTS doesn’t hesitate to tell meaningful “keyword” stories about dreams, reality, loneliness and hope. What stories can we look forward to seeing in the future? Suga wants to tell more stories based on his personal experiences and feelings.

4. How does he cope with stress?

Sometimes life gets stressful and it’s easy to get caught up in a whirlwind of emotional chaos. In the midst of this, Suga stops everything he’s been doing and takes some time to think rather than fight. He advises others to take a step back and assess their situation, and then wait a bit. Taking this time for yourself will help you see the situation more clearly.

5. Changing perspective

At the start of his career, Suga was swept away by the public. He has become sensitive to the reactions of others, especially online. But over time, he realized that he was starting to see aggressive backlash online, that he wouldn’t necessarily have the same offline experience. Some of the things that explode on the Internet are not so important in real life.

6. Positivity

Suga has been known to tackle dark topics in his music, but it’s totally positive these days. He said that because anger and innocence (a complex feeling of sadness, injustice, and resentment) eat away at a person, let those feelings go and instead seek positive energy.

7. The Secret Behind “Morning”

GQ Korea talked about Suga’s painting “Morning,” an acrylic painting that uses sound waveforms to transform an auditory experience into a visual one. So what word did Suga use to express “morning” in the painting? It is written on the back of the canvas, but only the person who has the painting will know what it is. GQ Korea theorized that the word should be private, but Suga said it all depends on the viewer’s opinion. It may or may not be exclusive to them.

8. Will he release folk songs?

It’s a possibility. Suga hasn’t been playing the guitar lately but is practicing singing. He used to be interested in mixing musical genres because these days there are no boundaries between genres.

9. His complex relationship with music

According to Suga, if you love something very much, it won’t take long. He wanted to make music for a long time, but there were times when he tried to like music a little less in order not to drown in it. Even now, Suga doesn’t listen to much music unless he’s working. Five years ago he started to establish boundaries and distances with music.

10. To dream or not to dream?

BTS often sings about following a dream, but Suga says it’s okay to have a big dream or not. “You don’t have to live your life that way,” she says.
