If you liked Save Me, you’ll love 7Fates: CHAKHO!
At the 2021 Briefing With The Community, HYBE announced a new webtoon for BTS. Unlike Save Me, BTS’s 2019 webtoon, 7Fates: CHAKHO is leaving the BTS Universe as we know it, this time to create a brand new story.
7Fates: CHAKHO is an urban fantasy inspired by tiger hunters of the Joseon Dynasty. In an interview episode, BTS explained what readers can expect in terms of plot and characters.
“The story begins with monsters named ‘Beom’,” Jin said. “Seven hunters of Beom named CHAKHO gathered to hunt humans and invade the city of ‘Sin-si’.”
CHAKHO is based on real tiger hunters from Chakhogapsa, Joseon Dynasty. Chakhogapsa exterminated Siberian tigers to protect the country from tiger attacks.
This is an urban fantasy from the motive of the Chakhogapsa, the army that used to catch tigers and bears of Korean tales.

“Beom” is a Korean word for tiger, but CHAKHO’s Beom is a supernatural creature.
According to Jimin, 7Fates: CHAKHO is inspired by creatures from Korean traditional legends, including rogue goblins (dokkaebi) and Bulgasalyi (also known as Pulgasari). Bulgasalyi is an unkillable monster that feeds on metal scraps.
There’s also an interesting set-up from old tales, like Korean traditional goblins and Bulgasalyi.

We’re also looking forward to learning about the complex characters BTS members play. Jungkook describes a character as “a hunter with Beom’s talent“.
This character is put in an awkward situation where he has to catch Beom using the ability of Beom, but at the same time, he’s not to be recognized as a Beom.

“The character had to be ruthless to survive in the cave in Beom’s cave,” J-Hope said of a character’s origin story. “It will be interesting to see what kind of decisions the characters will make and how those decisions will lead to different events.” He continued his words and made us wonder.
“They [CHAKHO] are playing different roles of Beom in a corrupt and confused city,” Suga said. What exactly are these roles and what is the significance of the city of Sin-si to tiger hunters? We are very curious!
RM hinted that 7Fates: CHAKHO could be just as heartbreaking as Save Me. Will BTS be able to reach the happy ending this time?
