Let’s tell the story of Lisa’s name change. BLACKPINK Lisa was actually born with the name Pranpriya Manoban. Beautiful little girl Pranpriya is a local Thai name meaning “dear soul”. If Lisa had kept her birth name, we might know her as BLACKPINK Priya today. However, when she was younger, she decided to change her name to Lalisa. Lisa was only 13 years old. Since Lisa started her career as a child, she has won awards for dancing even at the age of 13. In Thailand, people change their names to ward off bad luck and invoke good luck. A fortune teller told Lisa that if she changed her name, great luck would come her way. Lisa changed her name from Pranpriya to Lalisa. Lalisa means “appreciated, admired”.
Less than a week after the name change, YG Entertainment announced to Lisa that she had passed the audition and could become a trainee. Lisa explains: “This is my name! People don’t know that Lalisa is my real name because they only know me as Lisa from BLACKPINK. So I’m very happy that I started this project with the title “LALISA”.”
